Membership is easy! Here are the three steps:
1. Eligibility
Review the critieria below to ENSURE your eligibility BEFORE applying.
2. Application Form
Complete the online application form.
3. Payment
After completing the form, make online payment by credit card.
- Fees are due annually on April 1st
- Students MUST be attending full time and provide a student number
- If you are deemed to be ineligible for membership, all fees will be refunded

Criteria
Professional
Open to individuals with a Degree or Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation/Recreation/Leisure Services. Degree or Diploma must include:
3 Core Courses
- Foundations of TR
- Clinical Practice
- Program Planning/Design
- Disabling Conditions
- Modalities & Facilitation Techniques in TR
- Research and Evaluation

3 General Courses
- Leisure Education/Counselling
- Issues and Trends in TR
- Computer Technology in TR
- Disability & Senior Seminars
|
6 Supportive Courses
- Outdoor & Adventure programming
- Recreation for Special populations
- Technology & Adaptive Equipment
- TR and the schools
- Adapted Aquatics
- Adapted Sports and Game
- Pediatrics, Gerontology

Core Courses: Course title must include "therapeutic recreation" or refer to a special population relative to recreation and specific activity or specific disability.
General Courses: Course title must include "recreation", "leisure", or "play"
Supportive Courses: Must be from three of the clinically related areas (Gerontology, Early childhood Education, Psychology, Sociology, Rehabilitation, Physical Education, Special Education)
Student
Open to individuals pursuing a Degree or Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation/Recreation/Leisure Services. You MUST be a FULL TIME student to apply for membership in this category. (at least 3 courses per semester)
Supporter
A Supporter is interested in furthering the objectives of BCTRA and the Therapeutic
Recreation profession, but is ineligible to be a Professional, or
Student member. Or an individual who is eligible to be a professional
member but has retired from the Therapeutic Recreation profession, or
has moved from the province of B.C.
