Candace Hitch - Dir. of Advocacy & Liaison

Hello BCTRA Members! It is with excitement that I have accepted the Board Member position of Director of Advocacy & Liaison. I am a 1991 Graduate of the Therapeutic Recreation Practitioner program at Douglas College who had the amazing privilege of working at Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children for 17 years. Having been born and raised in Vernon, the thought of moving back “home” to the Okanagan has always been a goal for me and my husband, and was achieved in 1995 when I accepted a position at Cottonwoods Care Centre in Kelowna.

After working so many years with children, I now have the opportunity to learn from and provide Recreation Therapy to our elder population. I currently work in the Geriatric Day Hospital and on the Reactivation Unit at Cottonwoods. My portfolio also includes teaching in-services and practicum supervision to Therapist Assist students at Okanagan College, as well as being the Co-Chair for the Therapeutic Recreation Professional Practice Council for Interior Health.

My Personal leisure includes being an avid hockey and soccer mom/super-fan, golfing, and going out for movies. I belong to the “MMMA” which is the highly unofficial but completely exciting “Monthly Mothers Mafia Association” – a fun group of ladies and mothers who meet monthly to enjoy wine, activity and each other’s company. And…my husband and I love getting together with our amazing group of friends for dinners, to play poker or to watch Ultimate Fighting.
