Hi everyone. I am taking a diploma program in Therapeutic Recreation in Nova Scotia. My practicum is the last week of April and goes until the 4th week in May. I would like to take my practicum on Vancouver Island. My first choice for a practicum is a private practice. Does anybody know if there are any private practices on Vancouver Island? If this is not possible, I would like to go in a facility that has a varied population (ie brain injury clients, Alzheimer's, spinal cord injury clients, etc.)

I would be staying in the Duncan area but would have a car rental so I can travel. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris Rafuse

I am a recreation services program manager at the James Bay Care Centre, a 24hr. nursing home – complex care in Victoria.I  have two qualified recreation therapists on staff.

The union which currently houses these staff members does not have a job classification / benchmark that recognizes their credentials.

Does anyone out there know which unions in B.C. offer Therapeutic Recreation benchmarks?

Please respond to my e-mail address dougelkey@cplodges.com

I have a company based in Hamilton, Ontario, that delivers TR services in a 1:1 format out into the community. The majority of our clients are seniors either living at home or in long term care facilities. Our clients pay privately for our services. I am hoping to find other TRs in private practice or a similar setting to offer mutual support, share ideas and help each other grow our businesses.

What do you as a professional believe the most important skills are for a recreation therapist to possess? If you could send replies to grisdale1757@siast.sk.ca that would be greatly appreciated. Or post a reply on the message board. Thank you very much for your time. - Kyra G.

We are looking for fold up tables that are easy to move and compact to store. We hoped we might find some on wheels.

Is there anyone using tables - approximately 5' -6' x 30" that they really like? Thanks for your input

Hi Does anyone know of any staffing levels or benchmarks beings developed in RT? I work in a facility that has gone from extended care level (all in w/c) to multilevel care (quite a few walk) 1 respite bed, and 2 geriatric assessment short stay beds. we also do a bridging program with people in the acute side of the hospital (2-4 people) 2x wk. We had 1 full time AW and one FT RT- we are looking at cuts - 1 FT AW and 1 4hr AW with RT support off site. Does this look reasonable? Especially to those facilities of similar size? 47 permanent beds.
