Sheila Kennedy, Dir. of Education & Recruitment

Hello there – my name is Sheila and I have worked in the wonderful field of Therapeutic Recreation for my entire career. It has treated me well and I feel it is important to give back which is one of the reasons I have volunteered to be on the Board over the next couple of years. There has been some positive momentum made in the past few years within BCTRA and it is wonderful to see the field grow and develop. I received my Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation (many years ago) through Douglas College, worked for a few years, and then returned to school from 1986-1989 to complete my Bachelor of Recreation Administration Degree with a major in Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Alberta. I am a strong supporter of the Douglas College Therapeutic Recreation Program and have sat on the Advisory Board for the Program for many years. I believe that continuing education is vital and it is important to pursue educational opportunities to help us continue to grow as professionals. I work full-time as a Discipline Leader at Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children in Vancouver. My interests include reading, hiking, camping, snowshoeing, and most recently Zumba classes!
